ناس (nas) means folk, people, or mankind. It is also the name of the last chapter of the Qur’an, which is a short invocation seeking refuge in the Lord of mankind 1. This chapter is known as Surah An-Nas (سورة الناس) and consists of six verses. Here is the translation of Surah An-Nas:
“Say, ‘I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,
The Sovereign of mankind,
The God of mankind,
From the evil of the retreating whisperer –
Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind –
From among the jinn and mankind.’” 2
ناس (nas) can also refer to network-attached storage (NAS), which is a device connected to a network that provides storage space 13.
